About

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

Robby Maschhaupt is the founder of PIF Watersports, teaching wakesurfing to people from all parts of the nation. Robby grew-up in Huntington Beach, California. He has always loved surfing and wakeboarding. He has raced off Baja 100, Parker 400, Indy Cars, Nascar, Paris Dakar Rally, Endurance Racing, and was a professional gas man and pit crew member since 1989.

In 2004, Robby invited Cobe and Tony Smith to a NASCAR race in Homestead, Florida. They invited Greenwood, Necrason, Letchwitch, Shaun Murray, Meddock, Sean O’Brien, and Garrett Cortese. NASCAR wanted Robby to organize more of these events. This confirmed Robby as part of the water sports community. Shortly after, some of the people started losing sponsors. Robby was inspired with idea for people to buy boards, shorts, flip flops, and boats to pump-up the water sports economy.

Robby was ready to pursue his passion & started teaching people to wakesurf and wakeboard. This inspired him to start his business, PIF Watersports, in 2013. Since then, Robby has pulled over 3,500 people.  In 2017, Robby was honored to receive the First “PASS the HANDLE” Award from the WSIA and Wakeboarding Magazine.

PTH HISTORY

The Pass the Handle initiative is meant to get new people on the water who otherwise wouldn’t be able to do so.  It was first started by Zane Schwenk and Shaun Murray in 2015.  The program is now officially a part of the WSIA and Robby is proud to be a regional ambassador for it.

WHAT WE DO

Our events take five people to wakesurf on a four hour set. We have an amazing success rate averaging 500+ people a year. Every person lets go of the rope and surfs. We teach all ages from children to 80+, including children with special needs.  PIF Watersports teaches our customers how to teach.

PIF Watersports is passionate about giving back to the community, region, and nation.  In addition to our PTH weekly events, we are directly involved in several other events throughout the year that directly benefit those in need including:

WAKE-n-FLAKE, March 9th

Wake-surf and snowboard on the same day.  All proceeds go to Wake the World, a organization providing water sports opportunities to abandoned, abused and neglected children, as well as for the handicapped and our wounded warriors

Wake for Warriors, June 3-5

Wake For Warriors is a three day event where we invite 12 combat veterans to participate in Karting & water sports activity over a three day period.  On the first day we race go karts at Victory Lane Karting Center in the morning.  Second part of the day is turning these Vets into professional NASCAR pit crew members.  We do this at Chip Ganassi Racing and turn them into tire changers , jack men and gas men for a day.  The next two days are spent on the water teaching the vets to wakeboard and wake surf.

This program is sponsored by Monster Energy and Carolina Water Sports. All lodging, food, karting, pit crew challenge, boats, and gas are donated by amazing people from our local community. It is our objective to treat these vets to one of the best adventures of their life.

Carolina Water Sports Surf Jam, May 11th

We put 6 Centurion and three Supremes in the water at Queens Landing and pull up to 280 people in one day for free.  People can sign up for designated times and boats throughout the day.

WAKESgiving, November

Instead of collecting money for gas, people donate food to Angels and Sparrows. Get the opportunity to Wakesurf with a group of people for a great cause. This event brings the community together with watersports and generosity.
