Robby Maschhaupt is the founder of the “PASS the HANDLE” Lake Norman chapter, teaching wakesurfing to people from all parts of the nation. Robby grew-up in Huntington Beach, California. He has always loved surfing and wakeboarding. He has raced off Baja 100, Parker 400, Indy Cars, Nascar, Paris Dakar Rally, Endurance Racing, and was a professional gas man and pit crew member since 1989.
In 2004, Robby invited Cobe and Tony Smith to a NASCAR race in Homestead, Florida. They invited Greenwood, Necrason, Letchwitch, Shaun Murray, Meddock, Sean O’Brien, and Garrett Cortese. NASCAR wanted Robby to organize more of these events. This confirmed Robby as part of the water sports community. Shortly after, some of the people started losing sponsors. Robby was inspired with idea for people to buy boards, shorts, flip flops, and boats to pump-up the water sports economy.
Robby was ready to pursue his passion & started teaching people to wakesurf and wakeboard. This inspired him to start his business, “PASS the HANDLE”, in 2013. Since then, Robby has pulled over 3,500 people with “PASS the HANDLE.” In 2017, Robby was honored to receive the First “PASS the HANDLE” Award from the WSIA and Wakeboarding Magazine.
